Pirates in Europe

Shiver me bones

Shiver me timbers!

It looks like the Pirate Party (Piratpartiet) are getting a seat in the European parliament after tonight’s election in Sweden. After 5.653 of 5.664 districts have been counted the pirates are holding a 7.1 share of the votes which is sufficient to grant them 1 seat in the European parliament! (source DN.se).

The party came to life in 2006 but gained a lot more attention after the trail of the Pirate Bay website founders (Spectrail).

“The Pirate Party wants to fundamentally reform copyright law, get rid of the patent system, and ensure that citizens’ rights to privacy are respected.”

Seems like the aim to make an example of the pirate bay backfired a little. The lawsuit gave them the attention they needed to get a seat. haha. noobs
